Orford Selectboard approves routine minutes, reviews assessor report and signs administrative items

The Selectboard approved three sets of minutes (04/09/2025, 04/14/2025 and 04/16/2025) on motions that passed 3-0.
Assessor Brendon McGahan reported that most inventory forms have been returned and about 100 properties reported changes; he will visit those parcels in the coming weeks and has provided two documents about the revaluation process for posting. McGahan also said he met with a Great River Hydro representative about a program the town might consider and has processed three Land Use Change tax bills so far.
Administrative and signature-folder items: Chair Kevin Follensbee signed the July 4 parade permit prepared by Chief Bachus. The Board agreed to retain the Selectboard valuation of 66% on the Cole Farm timber-tax worksheet (the forester had rated it 50%). The meeting listed three specific Land Use Change Tax applications with tax amounts (Map & Lot #001-093-27B — $4,940; Map & Lot #001-091-069 — $2,900; Map & Lot #008-029-002 — $2,000). A request to access Jacobs Brook for gold mining and dredging needs additional information before the Board will sign off; Follensbee will research whether a state permit is required.
Charles Smith encouraged other Board members to sign an online Fair School Funding statement, noting the issue affects town taxes. Manifests, payroll and accounts payable folders were reviewed and signed where necessary. The Board adjourned at 7:27 p.m. on a motion that passed 3-0.
