Orleans council swears in Jack Taylor, approves SRO renewal, appointments and routine municipal business

Clerk-Treasurer Robert F. Henderson administered the oath of office to Jack Taylor, who was appointed to replace the late Councilman Randy Clark for Ward 2. Councilman John F. Noblitt moved to accept the May minutes; Councilman Jack Taylor seconded the motion and the minutes were approved by voice vote.
Frank and Tamara Redding raised a drainage problem at their residence at the corner of Mathers and Roosevelt. The council agreed to investigate options to address the Reddings’ concerns and directed staff to follow up.
Town Marshal Jim Lindsey reported that he and Clerk Henderson recently met with the Indiana Department of Transportation about standardizing speed-limit signage on State Road 37 through Orleans; INDOT is expected to change signs in the coming weeks to simplify enforcement. Lindsey also thanked JSI for donating new workstations to the police department.
Council members approved a request from Orleans Community Schools to renew the town’s School Resource Officer agreements for the 2026–27 school year. The council also approved the appointments of Kirt and Velvet Daugherty to the Orleans Airport Board to replace Tommy Adams (resigned) and the late Jim Shelby.
Fire Chief Ronnie Roach reported 22 runs for June: 20 EMS calls, one fire and one wreck. With no further business, Councilman Noblitt moved to adjourn; Councilman Taylor seconded and the meeting ended at approximately 5:38 p.m.
