The Plaistow Board of Selectmen reviewed warrant-article language and Budget Committee coordination and approved routine items during its Jan. 12 meeting.
Select Vice Chair Jay DeRoche told the board he assembled the warrant articles and the voters' guide and summarized recent Budget Committee action. DeRoche referenced one article (listed in the minutes as P-26-07) and described it as '5 cents per thousand,' saying he used the average assessed home to calculate the tax impact; the minutes also state a figure of $2,250 per year as the calculated impact but do not record the assessed value used for that calculation. Selectman Tyler Schorman proposed a wording change to an article labeled P-26-19 to clarify that the language referred to a registration fee rather than a resident fee; several other article explanations (collective bargaining, cemetery explanations, contingency fund text and a date correction from 2031 to 2030) were reviewed and edited by the board.
The board approved a motion by Selectman Jonathan Gifford, seconded by Selectwoman Liz Kosta, to transfer up to $120,000 from the Public Safety Communications Capital Reserve Fund (vote recorded 5-0-0). Separately, Select Vice Chair Jay DeRoche moved to approve the non-public session minutes of Jan. 5, 2026 and keep them sealed; Selectwoman Kosta seconded and the board voted 5-0-0. DeRoche also moved to approve the consent agenda, which included the accounts payable manifest for the week of Dec. 29, 2025; draft BOS minutes of 12/22/25; the 2025 Waterline Suppression Tax Warrant; and a Health Officer nomination form. The consent agenda motion passed 5-0-0.
The minutes record that an additional police officer was discussed for inclusion in future budgets and that mowing/upkeep line items are intended to fund outside contractors rather than overtime. The board scheduled further Budget Committee work and a public hearing noted by the Budget Committee calendar in the minutes.
