Board approves multiple admin hires and a contested promotion at Floyd Central

The New Albany-Floyd County Schools board approved a series of personnel actions, confirming administrative interns and making a contested promotion at Floyd Central.
Sarah Pierce, Greenville Elementary principal, recommended Robert Hughes for an administrative internship; the board approved the appointment unanimously following a motion and second. After the vote Hughes said he was ‘‘really excited to continue the great work’’ at Greenville.
Brian Perry presented Tyler Gross for an administrative-intern position at Georgetown Elementary; trustees approved that appointment unanimously as well.
At Floyd Central, principal Mr. Ihuzin recommended promoting Kelly Payne from assistant to associate principal. Board members discussed the new associate role and its place in the high school’s administrative structure; one trustee said the vote raised broader concerns about administrative titles and compensation in a tight fiscal environment.
"I'm just concerned when we are a corporation asking providing incentives to people who retire early ... it's hard for me to do an increase to administration," one board member said during discussion. After deliberation the promotion passed 5–2. Kelly Payne addressed the board, calling the promotion an honor and thanking colleagues and family.
The board also approved the appointment of JT Cox as assistant principal at Floyd Central by unanimous roll call. New appointees offered brief remarks of appreciation and urged continued focus on student success.
All hires and promotions will be implemented according to district procedures; trustees said staffing fills immediate building needs and that the district continues to monitor administrative structures and budgets.
