Northampton DPW director and commission chair Donna Escalia to step down Aug. 31

Donna Escalia, director of public works and chair of the Transportation and Parking Commission, told the commission on June 16 that she is resigning her position and will remain with the city through Aug. 31 to assist with the transition.
"I am resigning my position. I will be with the city through the end of the summer, so August 31, and then certainly available to help my successor however they may need assistance," Escalia said. She described the decision as public and widely publicized and offered to appear before council or otherwise support succession planning.
Several colleagues praised Escalia’s leadership during the meeting. A staff member, Cindy, called her "an awesome boss and the leader of the DPW and this commission." Nancy Forrestal thanked Escalia for her direction and the improvements the city has gained under her leadership. A participant, Brett, offered personal thanks and best wishes.
Escalia said she will coordinate scheduling for summer commission meetings and work with council and staff on succession planning. No successor was announced at Tuesday’s meeting.
