Council sets hiring committee, discusses foreclosures and court options; approves routine motions and bills

At the start of old business, the council named Mayor Eric Folstad and council member Dave Hoff to a hiring committee to recruit a new auditor. Donna Zeltinger reported ongoing outreach to Mohall, the Renville County auditor and the North Dakota State Judicial Office about collaborating with another city or the county for municipal judge/court services; she will check whether the city must contract with its county or may select another jurisdiction.
Two properties in VA foreclosure were discussed. The Leatherbury house at 511 Seaton St. is under VA foreclosure; Carl Lade of Elite Real Estate will oversee maintenance and mowing until title is received and the city will charge only the monthly lift station loan and sewer fee. The Vasquez home at 102 Tate Rd. has returned to the VA for foreclosure; city staff noted electricity and water status and a process will be required to ready the property for sale.
On personnel and insurance items, council moved to review policy language for removing an inactive council member and approved that review; the BCBS renewal for employee Daryl Dotson carried a $53 increase and Mayor Folstad agreed to sign the renewal paperwork.
Routine motions were approved by voice vote: council approved the minutes of the Feb. 4 meeting (motion by Dianne Hensen, second by Dave Hoff), the agenda with four additions (motion by Dave Hoff, second by Dustin Dewbre), and a motion to approve the financial report and pay bills (motion by Dustin Dewbre, second by Dave Hoff). The meeting’s payee list totaled $46,861.46; the council recorded 'all ayes' for those motions (the paying-of-bills vote specifically noted ayes by Hensen, Dewbre and Hoff). The meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
