Commission approves Craig Snyder sculpture submission for Civic Center Park, pending historic-commission approval

The Board of Parks Commission on July 13 reviewed and approved a sculpture submission by artist Craig Snyder for display in Civic Center Park, with final installation contingent on approval by the Historic Preservation Commission.
Natalie Strome, who identified herself as project manager for Sculpture Walk Harbor Park, told commissioners the Civic Center location is one of the planned sites and that the program uses existing pedestals. "So we're asking for your review of this new piece by Craig Snyder," Strome said, adding that the artist will place the work on the park's existing pedestal rather than remounting the pedestal itself.
Commissioners discussed the timing and prior walk rotations, noting Civic Center Park presents pedestal-size constraints and that some past pieces did not fit the site. One commissioner said the remainder of the Sculpture Walk will be presented next year and then moved to approve the submission; another seconded the motion. The commission approved the item by voice vote.
The commission's approval authorizes staff to proceed with the proposed installation process and forwards the item to the Historic Preservation Commission for final approval, as required for installations at the Civic Center site.
