Councilors in Glenburn on July 6 discussed maintenance work on a problem sewer line, plans to pursue street repairs, and agreed to apply for an AARP Community Challenge Grant to help pay for sidewalks.
Councilor David Hoff (Sewer) said the Crestview sewer line has been flushed and will be flushed on a regular schedule; he described a planned major flush using the hydrant behind his residence and running until the discharge runs clear to reduce blockages. Hoff said the council has not yet received a quote from ND Sewage and Pump or a response from Kemper related to the issue.
Taylor Dotson (Streets) reported contacting potential contractors, including Jet Black and Garden State Contractors, and that Garden State does not perform crack sealing. Dotson said he will continue to solicit bids and contact Bechtold to estimate repair costs for streets in rough condition, including Oakley near the school. Council directed replacement signs be ordered by Daryl Dotson.
Separately, the council agreed to submit an application for an AARP Community Challenge Grant to support sidewalk work. The motion to pursue the grant was moved by David Hoff, seconded by Dustin Dewbre, and passed unanimously. No dollar amount for a potential sidewalk project was provided at the meeting.
Council members also discussed promoting Glenburn and maintaining a city to-do list; Mayor Eric Folstad said he will get help to reinstall a sign on Highway 83.
Next steps recorded in the meeting: pursue contractor bids for street repair, continue scheduled sewer flushing operations, and prepare the AARP grant application for sidewalks.
