At the July 15 meeting of the LaSalle County Zoning Board of Appeals, Chair Sandy Billard criticized County Board member James Reid’s handling of a June 9 county board proceeding and expressed support for land use director Brian Giff.
Billard said she watched the June 9 county board meeting and was "disgusted by the contrived assault waged against Brian Giff by county board member James Reid," adding that she believed Reid supplied "no verified evidence" to back a call for a vote of no confidence. Billard said that pre-application materials are not ordinarily distributed to county board members and are not considered evidence until notarized, certified and presented to the ZBA.
Multiple ZBA members voiced support for Giff on the record. Tim Wissam and others said they agreed with the chair’s assessment; Deb Lane said she had been in a similar position and supported Billard’s remarks; several members expressed personal support for Brian Giff’s work processing zoning applications in a nonpartisan manner.
The remarks were made at the end of the ZBA meeting during a public statement by the chair; no representative for County Board member James Reid was present to respond.
