Denton County Commissioners approve nearly $4 million in vehicle purchases, road and design contracts

Commissioners discussed rising per-vehicle costs driven by equipment and ballistic inserts; one commissioner said ballistic protection adds “about $12,000 per vehicle.” The motion passed unanimously.
The court also approved supplement agreement No. 6 with STV Incorporated to expand the Loop 288 and U.S. 380 connectivity study and interchange revisions. The supplement adds $1,974,896 and revises the contract total to $12,596,691.60, with specified transfers from identified line items. The judge read the contract numbers and funding lines into the record and the motion carried unanimously.
For immediate roadway work, the court awarded ITB262916 to Quality Excavations for turn-lane improvements at FM 377 and Fishtrap, in the amount of $979,727.56 inclusive of an $80,000 contingency; the court noted the project is a phased approach to relieve congestion while state funding remains limited.
Other procurement actions approved included cancellation and re-award of inmate mail and telephone services via Smart Communications cooperative contracts; a sole-source exemption to purchase Clio legal software from Cofile Technologies (estimate $120,000); and a contract to Knight Erosion Control for bank stabilization and bridge scour work. All votes recorded during the meeting were announced as carrying unanimously.
What's next: Each approved contract or budget transfer will proceed to implementation per the county's procurement and project schedules; several items required internal fund transfers and line-item identifications as read into the record at the meeting.
