Plaistow selectmen unanimously recommend $14.1 million operating budget; default budget set at $13.93 million

The Plaistow Board of Selectmen voted unanimously Jan. 5 to recommend an operating budget of $14,103,949 for fiscal year P26‑02 after the Budget Committee forwarded its recommendation.
Selectman Jay DeRoche, reporting the Budget Committee vote (5‑3‑0), moved that the board recommend the operating budget with a stated Default Budget of $13,929,786; Selectman Tyler Schorman seconded. The board approved the motion 5‑0‑0. Town Manager Greg Colby told the board the Default Budget figure is roughly $174,000 lower than the proposed operating budget and said staff would need to identify cuts if the Default Budget were to take effect.
DeRoche and others noted some warrant articles received mixed recommendations from the Budget Committee. The board also approved a consent agenda (accounts payable manifest, draft minutes, waterline suppression warrant and a health officer nomination) and approved and unsealed one set of nonpublic minutes while keeping a second set sealed. At the end of the meeting the board voted to enter nonpublic session under RSA 91‑A:3 II(a) to discuss public‑employee matters and did not return to public session; the public session adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
