Sumner County committee approves donation routing and readies July 4th America 250 events

Mayor John C. Isbell called the Sumner County Celebrates America 250 committee to order at 3:00 p.m. on April 23 and led approval of routine items before the committee moved into event planning details.
The committee approved a plan to route all donations through Bledsoe Lick Historical Park and recorded that the county will match donations above $18,000 up to a maximum of $25,000. Mayor John C. Isbell reported site work at the courthouse monument, and said the county will purchase a large time capsule with a plaque to mark the installation.
Sandra Long updated the committee on the Jethro Sumner monument, saying the group has met with on-site contractors and that a new light will be installed to illuminate the monument. "Everything's going great," the minutes record under Long's report.
On programming, Mark Efros confirmed the History Hunt (scavenger hunt) is live and noted one person has already completed it; committee members discussed where to send the prize or art award for the winner. Jeff Yawn reported that three to five schools have replied about participating and set a May 10 deadline for additional responses, noting that ROTC units may refrain from wearing uniforms because of a past shooting.
Plans for the July 4 Patriot Marker ceremony were outlined: Ehrin Ehlert is scheduled as keynote speaker, the Pledge will be led by the Children of the American Revolution, a choir will perform the national anthem, and Dave Moomy will play TAPS. Organizers discussed a rider and horse portrayal and said they will wait until May to confirm band availability and consider alternatives; Mr. Moomy is also exploring a possible flyover.
Ken Thomson and Ehrin Ehlert described video work for the celebration: filming at Bledsoe Lick Historical Park, finishing footage at Trousdale Place and completing editing for use on the event website. James Lindsey said the site’s hero section and activity postings are live and the History Hunt has been posted, but the site is awaiting final videos.
The committee set its next meeting as a Zoom session on May 7 and adjourned at 3:40 p.m.
