Forman council considers Senior Center furnace funding; approves community donations and staff raises

The Forman City Council met Dec. 10 and considered city support for replacing the furnace and air-conditioning unit at the city-owned Senior Center, while also approving several community donations and staff compensation changes.
Mayor Kevin Bopp called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. The agenda and the Nov. 12 minutes were both approved at the start of the meeting.
Caryn McLaen told the council the Senior Center's furnace and air-conditioning system needs to be updated. Councilmember John Stenvold moved, and Kirk Fliehs seconded, a motion for the city to pay up to $10,000 toward replacement, with the city providing 50% or more depending on Valley Senior Services and with Valley Senior Services not paying more than 50% of the quoted cost. The meeting minutes record the motion and the second but do not record a vote or final outcome for that motion.
On community donations, the council approved a $1,000 contribution from the Forman Improvement Fund to the Community Club for the hockey-rink warming house. The minutes record a roll-call on that motion: Mark Wyckoff, Luke Anderson and Kirk Fliehs voted yea; John Stenvold voted nay. The motion passed.
The council also approved a $500 donation to Winter on Ice from the Forman Improvement Fund; the minutes state the motion carried.
Council members voted to increase compensation for city employees. A motion by Mark Wyckoff, seconded by Luke Anderson, approved 4% raises for City Auditor Alicia Thompson and City Superintendent Donavon Hajek and a 2% raise for Jordan Peterson. The motion also authorized Christmas bonuses of $750 each for Thompson and Hajek, $500 for Peterson, and $300 for Sara Dux. The minutes note the motion carried.
The council reviewed a list of routine claims and payments to vendors in the minutes. The meeting was adjourned at 7:20 p.m.; the next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 14 at 6:00 p.m.
Notes: The minutes list City Attorney Lyle Bopp among attendees in the opening roll call but a later line in the record states he was not present; the transcript contains both statements.
