Commission adopts sexual-assault awareness resolution, updates Council on Aging bylaws and accepts state tourism workshop grant

At its Feb. 10 meeting the Kane County Commission approved several routine items: a resolution designating April as sexual-assault awareness month, updated bylaws for the County Council on Aging to be codified into county ordinance, and acceptance of a state tourism/business-development workshop grant.

Commissioner Patty (speaker 4) moved adoption of Resolution R2026-7 to designate April as sexual-assault awareness month; commissioners discussed increases in reporting and the importance of outreach and voted the measure through by voice vote. The commission then approved updated bylaws for the Kane County Council on Aging; county staff said the changes modernize the ordinance (the bylaws dated from the 1990s), clarify the appointment process and remove responsibilities the council no longer carries, such as independent budgeting.

Jeanette (speaker 1) briefed the commission on the state-funded tourism/business-development workshop the county will host. The program, described as a state EDA-funded pass-through grant, will highlight local strengths including film heritage and volunteer tourism and feature a reception at Best Friends Roadhouse and a dinner at Iron Horse with a Native American cultural presentation. County staff said the grant requires separate accounting and a budget opening so the income can be tracked. Commissioners approved accepting the grant by voice vote.
