Board signs three-year DBT AWOS maintenance contract; manager reports record fuel sales and Wings & Wheels plans

The Daviess County Board of Aviation Commissioners voted on July 9 to approve a three-year renewal contract with DBT to maintain the airport’s Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS).
Airport Manager Erica Burkemper told the board that DBT was on site after a power outage caused repeated AWOS failures and that a new processor will likely be required; DBT will provide a quote before ordering. The board approved the renewal contract with DBT for $21,012 total (to be billed annually over three years). Commissioner Matt Merold moved to approve and sign the contract; Commissioner Chris Kimball seconded and the motion passed.
Burkemper also reported operational highlights: the FBO remodel was completed in late May; all hangars are currently rented; and June produced a record month in fuel sales — "over $40,000 brought in on just under 7,000 gallons," she said. Planning is underway for the 2026 Wings & Wheels event in late September; Burkemper confirmed the Huey helicopter will provide rides and several new sponsorships and food trucks have been secured.
Why it matters: AWOS reliability affects flight operations and pilot decision-making; a multi-year maintenance contract and replacement-processor plan are measures to reduce outages.
