Trustees discuss upcoming bus leases, recalibration meeting and concerns about state Education Savings Account program

Trustees used part of the June 10 meeting to report committee activity and raise a state-policy concern.

Trustee Tyler Mills said a transportation committee meeting reviewed six bus leases coming due; the board plans to wait several months to assess funding before committing to replacements and is exploring temporary use of suburban vehicles for small teams. Trustee Joe Prell said the six leases coincided because a prior transportation fire disrupted the district's bus rotation.

Trustee Dana Gordon reported that she and Trustee Susan Pillen attended a recalibration meeting in Upton with representatives from several districts, and named attendees in the minutes including Steve Harshman, Ogden Driskill, JD Williams and Troy Claycomb; she said districts urged voter turnout in the primary election to influence the process.

Trustee Jason Jenkins raised concerns about the Wyoming Department of Education's Education Savings Account (ESA) program, noting the program provides $7,000 per student for educational expenses and expressing worry about a lack of oversight or regulations and potential effects on public education. The minutes record his concern but do not include a response or formal board action on the matter.

The board also discussed and corrected a social‑media claim that the district was not offering sixth‑grade sports, clarifying that the issue is low student numbers that can leave some sports unavailable for a season rather than a district policy to withhold 6th‑grade athletics.

No formal motions were made on transportation leasing or the ESA matter during this meeting.
