The Granite County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously June 30 to grant elected officials a 3% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) and to set non‑union, regular county employees to receive a 3% COLA with an additional 4% matrix adjustment.
Commissioner McLure moved for the compensation changes and Commissioner Adler seconded; the motion passed unanimously. County staff said the change was proposed to align non‑union pay more closely with recent union increases and to simplify accounting by using percentage adjustments rather than a flat dollar-per-hour add-on.
During discussion, Commissioner McLure described the change as an equitable step to match union increases. Administrative staff member Sarah Graham had drafted a proposed pay matrix that incorporated the recommended adjustments. Public commenter Gail Leeper raised concerns that a straight 4% matrix increase could lead to inequities because some employees would receive more than a dollar-an-hour raise; County Attorney Blaine Bradshaw agreed that outcome was possible under the percentage approach.
The commissioners acknowledged those concerns but said the percentage approach was administratively simpler. No vote tallies by individual commissioner were recorded beyond “unanimous.” The change is set to take effect July 1, 2026, per discussion during the meeting.
