Juneau council confirms appointments, hires recreation coordinator and approves bill payments

The City of Juneau Common Council approved several personnel resolutions, confirmed committee appointments and authorized payment of the city’s bills during its monthly meeting.

Chair presented Resolution 65‑20‑25 to confirm mayoral appointments to the police and fire citizen committee — Ed Spitz, Ashley Siegmund and Jack Bowler — and the council approved the resolution by roll‑call vote.

The finance committee brought Resolution 64‑20‑25 to hire Jacob Matushek as recreation program coordinator at Step 3 ($22.23 per hour) with a six‑month orientation period; the council approved the hire by roll call. "We interviewed him and he was highly recommended," a committee member said in support of the hire.

Public safety presented Resolution 62‑20‑25 to confirm EMS election results and appointments (Dan Zink as coordinator, Nathan Zink as assistant coordinator, Dan Toll as secretary‑treasurer and Britney Borcher as training officer). The council voted to confirm those appointments. The council likewise approved Resolution 63‑20‑25 to confirm newly elected fire department officers.

Before the personnel items, the council approved the payment of bills: checks for $360,206.41 and electronic transfers for $362,771.33. The chair called for a roll‑call vote and each named member recorded an "Aye," and the motion carried.

Council members also heard routine departmental reports — library, utilities, public works and recreation — and noted that several members may not return after the upcoming election. The meeting adjourned after a motion and second.
