Selectmen hear sewer, water and ambulance updates; town staff flag IT vendor problems

Selectmen on March 16 received updates on several public-works and town-operations items that could affect local services.
Selectman Scott Champagne said Schofield's performed a video inspection of a reported sewer problem on Dickinson Street and concluded the issue appears to be in the street and likely caused by aging clay pipe. He said the highway department will excavate and repair the line when warmer weather permits.
Champagne also reported a water main break on Pine Knoll Terrace that required highway crew response through the day and into the evening; crews were able to repair the break.
Town Clerk and EMS Chief Audrey Champagne said the new ambulance has had its radio installed and is scheduled for inspection the following day; she described the vehicle as intermediate level. Audrey asked selectmen for feedback on recently used electronic tabulators; she said they appeared to work well, and the board favored holding the two fall elections at the fire station to ease access and reduce equipment moves.
Audrey and Administrative Assistant Krystle Dow also reported problems with the town's IT/security vendor, Thrive. Audrey said a grant for email conversions coordinated with Thrive and another vendor, Overwatch, was denied, and Krystle said Thrive support often cannot locate town computers in its system. Audrey suggested the board consider other vendors such as ANS.
Next steps noted in the minutes: highway crews will schedule excavation and repair for the Dickinson Street sewer issue when conditions allow; the ambulance inspection is expected the day after the meeting; and the board will consider vendor alternatives after the denied grant and recurring support issues.
