Council certifies special-election results and adopts renewal of health‑unit property tax

Tangipahoa Parish Council on July 13 officially canvassed and declared the results of a recent election on renewal of a 4‑mil ad valorem tax to fund parish health units. The readout indicated 7,509 votes in favor and 5,528 against for the proposition on the June 27, 2026 special election; the clerk and council determined the proposition passed and the council adopted Resolution 26-19 to certify the returns.
Council also introduced TP Ordinance 26-22 (directing renewal and collection of the 4‑mil tax for years 2027–2036 for maintenance, operation and development of parish health units) and TP Ordinance 26-21 (to canvass and promulgate results of an earlier May 16, 2026 election). The motions to adopt the resolution and to introduce the ordinances were moved, seconded and recorded on roll call.
The council recorded the vote totals in the canvass and followed standard procedure by adopting the resolution to declare the results; administrative steps will follow to implement collection of the renewed levy beginning with tax year 2027.
