Waste Management tells Jal council the company considers collection contract renewed

Jared Fuller, public sector manager for Waste Management, introduced himself during the public-comment portion of the Dec. 22 City of Jal meeting and told council members the company considers the city’s solid-waste contract to have automatically renewed.
"As far as we are concerned, we are under contract right now — we just had a renewal and we are still servicing Jal," Fuller said, adding that Waste Management had been serving the city more than 20 years and that the company's legal team believes a renewal took effect because the city did not act within a 120-day notice window ending Dec. 15.
Fuller offered to meet with city staff to address any concerns and to clarify the status of the contract. The minutes record no council directive or vote on the contract during the meeting; no city official response to Fuller’s assertion is recorded in the minutes.
Because the council did not act on the matter during the meeting, any formal determination about contract status, renewal terms or next steps would require staff follow-up or a future agenda item.
