Lane County on July 14 accepted a Rural Transformation grant from the Oregon Health Authority totaling $768,789.98 to expand dental services at the South Lane Clinic and hire staff needed to open a full-service dental clinic in that region.
Health and Human Services staff described renovation work at the South Lane Clinic that created separate primary care and dental clinic spaces and said federal rural transformation funds (passed through the state) will cover start-up costs — recruiting and onboarding staff — until billing revenue supports operations. Staff said they have a dental hygienist ready to transition and are recruiting a dental director, which determines the timeline for opening.
Commissioners thanked volunteers and partners including the city of Cottage Grove and noted efforts with Senator Merkley to secure additional funding. Vice Chair moved approval of order 26-07-14-13, which authorized acceptance of the grant, delegation to the county administrator to execute award documents and subcontracts, and an increase in FY26-27 appropriations in the Health & Human Services fund. The board approved the order 5-0.
