District reports $33 million in scholarship offers; FAFSA outreach planned

Rockingham County Schools officials told the board on July 12 that district seniors were offered approximately $33 million in scholarships this year, part of what the presenter described as a multi‑year upward trend in student scholarship offers.
Chief high‑school academic staff (Dr. Corcoran) said the district has seen strong results and cited a historical figure of more than $329 million in scholarship offers between 2007 and 2026. He described work by college advisors and community partners to support students with applications and financial aid, and said the district plans FAFSA support events once the FAFSA opens on Sept. 24, including partnership events with Rockingham Community College (RCC) and the College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC).
Why it matters: Scholarship totals and FAFSA completion can affect students’ college choices and affordability. The district requested cooperation from counselors and principals to host FAFSA nights and said it will publicize events to families.
