Board hears committee updates, 'Summer in the City' campaign and Cool Down St. Louis eligibility

The St. Louis Board of Health and Hospitals received routine committee updates and a presentation of the Department of Health's "Summer in the City" communications campaign, which includes printed guides, social-media outreach and short videos aimed at heat safety and other summer hazards.
Vice Chair Britney opened committee reports and described rollout of "epi minute" videos across community health centers and efforts to work with the St. Louis Public Library to make video material available at branches. April Mickenschowley, chair of the governance committee, urged members to complete a governance survey and said the committee will review results and draft an onboarding toolkit.
Erin Ford, public information supervisor, described the summer guide — a printable booklet and PDF the department distributes to libraries, FQHCs, churches and other community-facing organizations — and described social-media pushes across Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram and other platforms.
"This publication is designed to be handed out at all community-facing organizations," Ford said, noting materials are also available in the office and online.
Tyler Poslowski, public information officer, described website updates and multimedia pages where epi minutes and campaign videos are posted. The campaign team said it has produced short videos in addition to print assets and encouraged board members and partner organizations to download and share the materials.
Shontay Flulan outlined Cool Down St. Louis' assistance: air-conditioner distribution and utility-assistance referrals targeted to seniors, people with disabilities, homebound and medically needy residents who have no AC in the home. Flulan said referrals can be made through the Cool Down St. Louis website and by phone; she provided a contact number on the call and said she would confirm it for distribution because multiple renditions appeared in the transcript.
The board also discussed advocacy work on board bills 48 and 49; Chair Simpson said the board submitted comments that some sponsors have incorporated and that the bills are still being amended and have not reached final approval. The board approved the June 18 meeting minutes by motion and voice vote and was told interviews for the city health director search are ongoing.
The meeting adjourned; the board's next regular meeting is scheduled for Aug. 20.
