Silver Creek Township Planning & Zoning Board members approved a variance Jan. 7 that allows Zeigler Custom Homes to construct a deck that partially encroaches on the building setback from Locke Lake.
Chairman Chris Klein said moving the house plans back toward the road would interfere with the property’s septic system, a constraint Klein cited in support of the variance. A neighbor, James Lunde, attended the meeting and voiced support for the request.
Member Tom Vanek made the motion to approve the variance; Member Mike Helman seconded. The board carried the motion 8-0 with Member Mark Egge recorded as abstaining.
The minutes state the new house otherwise complies with zoning standards and that the deck is the only portion within the setback; the house and deck align with neighboring properties, according to the materials summarized for the board. No board members or guests raised objections during the discussion.
The board took no separate formal action to alter the septic plan; the minutes record Klein’s explanation as the rationale for approval. The board moved on to other agenda items after the vote.
