Cannabis ordinance: Council introduced an ordinance amending business regulations (chapter 1.15, subsection 1.15.06) to prohibit smoking cannabis in public spaces and advanced it for further consideration; staff said the language aligns with state statute, treats the offense as noncriminal and sets fines starting at $50 up to $300. A public meeting on the ordinance is scheduled for April 13 at 5:30 p.m.
Accounting services: Council considered an accounting consultant services agreement with Partmeal Accounting Group LLC not to exceed $60,000. Because the consultant was not present, a councilor moved to postpone the item to the next meeting so members could discuss it further; the motion carried.
Community notices: The mayor announced Greenfree Solid Waste Authority pickup in the Downs starting April 6 (with additional pickup the following day if needed) and warned of sidewalk construction along Zia Natural Gas roughly to Pinecliff that will be weather dependent. Councilors also promoted an Easter community event (volunteer recruitment, donations of bikes and a dunk tank) and other local outreach.
