Parkland board approves musical licensing, expanded student-assistance services and several overnight trips

The Parkland School District board approved a series of consent and committee recommendations, including contracts and student activities, during its regular meeting.

The Academics, Arts and Athletics committee recommended (and the board approved) a musical performance agreement with Concord Theatricals to secure licenses for middle-school spring musicals. The board also authorized an addendum to the existing agreement with Mid-Atlantic Rehabilitation Services (Mars ATAP) to expand services for the student assistance program; the addendum was described as related to an earlier board-approved agreement from June 30, 2023.

Trustees approved several overnight student field trips: the Parkland High School International Thespian Society to Westchester University in New York, Jan. 2–4, 2025; the Political Science Club to the Ivy League Model United Nations conference in Philadelphia, Jan. 23–26, 2025; and the PMEA District 10 chorus trip to Twin Valley High School in Elverson, Pa., Feb. 6–7, 2025.

On facilities business, the board approved an encroachment agreement with PPL Electric Utilities Corporation to permit parking expansion at the district's new operations center; the District Solicitor (King Spry) had reviewed the agreement.

All committee recommendations were moved and seconded and carried during the meeting. The motions were recorded as carried with the board voice voting in favor; specific roll-call names were not recorded in the transcript for each item.

Board members noted these approvals concluded the committee reports and actionable items portion of the agenda.
