River Ridge terminates Laz’s Lawn and hires GulfScapes; new contract $58,500

The River Ridge board voted unanimously on Nov. 19 to terminate the Landscape Service Agreement with Laz’s Lawn Service, Inc. and immediately engage GulfScapes Landscape Maintenance Services. Mrs. Adams described Laz’s Lawn's poor performance as the reason for the change.
GulfScapes submitted a proposal for $58,500, which is $13,000 higher than the district's budgeted amount of $45,000. The board discussed funding options, including using payments withheld from Laz’s Lawn and unassigned funds to offset the added cost. GreenScapes was not an option because it refused to execute the CDD contract.
On motion by Kurt Blumenthal and seconded by Bob Schultz the board authorized management to terminate the Laz’s Lawn contract and engage GulfScapes effective immediately (vote: 5-0). Staff will manage contract transition and apply withheld funds toward plant replacement and initial payments where appropriate.
