River Ridge CDD discusses storm-surge risks, proposes advisory panel and multi-year resilience planning

He presented a hypothetical topographic analysis in which a 10-foot to 12-foot storm surge could flood roughly 45% to 55% of the community, and said smaller measures such as 3-foot panels would likely be inadequate. Mr. Long urged the board to take a proactive, multijurisdictional approach and suggested possible partnerships with nearby West Bay and the Army Corps of Engineers if funding becomes available.
The board reached consensus that Mr. Long and newly appointed supervisor Keith Merrill will assist with the initiative and that District Engineer Charlie Krebs is authorized to support as necessary. The discussion emphasized the need to clarify what actions the CDD can take directly and which will require coordination with county, state and village authorities.
