Bennet council approves consent agenda and several waivers; holds closed session

At its March 9 meeting the Bennet City Council approved the consent agenda (including a block-party resolution), granted a curb-cut waiver and a limited Saltillo Road access for well maintenance, voted to enter a closed session for legal advice and then adjourned.
The Bennet City Council met March 9, 2026, at Bennet City Hall and approved several routine and site-specific actions, including a consent agenda that adopted RESOLUTION 2026-3.1 permitting a block party for BEDA’s Firefly Festival.
Dan Zieg moved to approve the consent agenda and Pete Simmons seconded; roll call was YES: Josh Buck, Jesse Schmidt, Pete Simmons and Dan Zieg, and the motion carried. The consent agenda had listed the Feb. 9, 2026 minutes, claims for payment, the Treasurer’s Report and the block-party resolution.
The council also approved a curb-cut waiver requested by Brandon Garvin. The motion, made by Dan Zieg and seconded by Jesse Schmidt, authorized a curb cut not to exceed 12 feet in width with a paved approach. The roll-call vote was YES: Jesse Schmidt, Pete Simmons, Dan Zieg and Josh Buck; the motion carried.
Separately, council members approved a limited waiver to allow vehicular access on Saltillo Road so personnel can maintain the shared well at the Hunter’s Ridge Addition. Dave Griffith explained the maintenance need and cited the Final Plat dated Sept. 21, 2006 (Lancaster County Instrument No. 2006-052912). Josh Buck moved the waiver, Pete Simmons seconded, and the roll call was YES: Simmons, Buck, Schmidt; Dan Zieg recorded an abstention with conflict. The motion carried.
Late in the meeting the council voted to go into closed session at 7:52 p.m. for the purpose of receiving legal advice; the motion was made by Dan Zieg, seconded by Jesse Schmidt, and passed on a 4–0 roll-call vote. The body returned to open session at 8:09 p.m. and adjourned at 8:10 p.m. after a motion by Zieg and second by Schmidt.
The council did not adopt or amend any ordinances at this meeting; recorded actions were the consent approvals and the site-specific access and curb-cut waivers. Future meetings are scheduled for continued review of right-of-way agreements and further grant-related work on community facilities.
