Summary
The commission was told the Board of Finance is advancing the purchase of a 108‑acre property along Cobb Fish Hill Road for $3,000,000, with the town planning a town meeting and a separate referendum (timing to be announced) to approve funding; majority of cost expected to be covered by grants through Bethel Land Trust.

Chair told commissioners that the Board of Finance has approved moving forward with acquiring a 108‑acre parcel along Cobb Fish Hill Road (referred to in the meeting as the Bendigo property) and that the town would pay $3,000,000 pending grant applications and further approvals.
The chair said the plan is for the Bethel Land Trust to apply for grants to recover most of the purchase cost and that the acquisition will move to the next step: a town meeting followed by a referendum vote planned for a separate day in August (the referendum is separate from the state primary scheduled for Aug. 11; exact referendum dates will be posted on the municipal website when set).
No formal vote was taken by the Sustainable Bethel Commission at the meeting; the chair said she had communicated the commission’s support to the Board of Finance and would share timing and outreach information as it becomes available.
Commissioners heard the announcement as an informational update and were told the matter will progress through required town processes before any expenditure of funds.
