Nebraska City Board of Education reviews proposed 2025–26 budget, proposes levy reduction

The Nebraska City Board of Education met Sept. 8, 2025, for a special hearing on the proposed 2025–26 budget. Superintendent Mark Fritch led the board through a review of the district’s recent valuations, tax requests, enrollment trends and state aid assumptions and outlined expected resources and expenditures for the coming school year.
Fritch told the board the district’s proposal stays within the allowable property tax authority and includes a reduction in the levy. The board discussed priorities for budgeted funds but did not record a separate formal vote on adopting the budget during the hearing.
Board President Lisa Chaney called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. Eight trustees were present and one was absent. No members of the public addressed the board during Public Comment Time.
A motion to adjourn the special hearing was made by Kent Blum and seconded by Jim Nemec; the motion to adjourn at 5:34 p.m. passed with eight yeas, zero nays and one absence.
