Harbor master reports operations update: antifreeze recycling, dock repairs and security audits

Harbor staff provided an operational update at the Sept. 17 special meeting, describing ongoing maintenance, environmental disposal actions and plans for dock repairs.
The harbor report said the Ocean Dock building had roof sealing work completed and that the harbor shipped 2,750 gallons of used antifreeze to Anchorage for recycling. "That was about $21,000 at the between shipping and, them reusing it or making it good," staff reported. The Coast Guard conducted a facility-security plan review and Marine Exchange completed an annual audit of the harbor security plan; both reviews "went well," staff said.
Staff said they plan to pull the North Gramma Dock in the first week of October when tides are appropriate and are seeking quotes to repair a broken dock in the harbor. Harbor staff also reported they inducted 74 vessels into a seasonal list and are pursuing parts and contractor estimates to restore a 5-ton crane on the drive-down dock.
Officials said they are awaiting quotes for repairs and will order necessary parts once estimates are received. The commission noted the cost and operational impact of maintenance and discussed options for funding larger infrastructure projects separately.
The harbor master report concluded and the meeting moved to the T-dock discussion later on the agenda.
