The Marlborough City Personnel Committee on July 14 voted to approve Lynn Faust as an alternate member of the Zoning Board of Appeals and agreed to place the nomination on the next City Council agenda for confirmation.
Faust, who previously served nearly 20 years on the ZBA, told the committee she can commit to serving again and said she ‘‘has a lot to offer’’ because of her prior experience and her engineering background. The mayor’s letter of recommendation, read at the meeting, described Faust’s prior ZBA service and cited engineering experience as an asset for adjudicating zoning cases.
Councilor David Doucette asked Faust why she wanted to return to the board after a 13-year gap; Faust said she enjoyed serving previously and can make time for hearings. Faust described recent nonprofit work with the Metro Community Development Corporation, which she said focuses on self-sufficiency programs for roughly 2,500 people per year and is oriented toward residents rather than business development.
The committee chair asked whether Faust’s commercial and electrical engineering work would create any conflicts with zoning duties. Faust replied that most of her current work is outside Marlborough and ‘‘has nothing to do with zoning.’’ The chair and Faust also clarified a résumé entry: an apparent ‘‘pets trainer’’ item refers to training Rotary International officers, not veterinary work.
A motion to approve Faust as an alternate member was made, seconded and approved with no opposition reported. Committee members voted to suspend rules so the nomination could be placed on the City Council agenda for final confirmation next Monday.
The committee took the action during its regular personnel meeting; council confirmation remains required for the appointment to take effect.
