The Sheboygan City Public Works Committee voted July 27 to authorize the mayor to undertake required actions to approve a buoy-port permit for a replacement hazard buoy near the Edgewater Generating Station in Lake Michigan.
City staff explained the city is part of the approval matrix because the site is adjacent to municipal waterfront property and the city does not have a dedicated harbor master. The city attorney noted the resolution is authorizing rather than directing and that staff are keeping the documents on the agenda in case an alternate event or permit opportunity arises.
Committee members asked whether the permit application’s designation of the buoy as in a "swim area" was accurate; staff said they did not have that detail immediately available but expected the replacement buoy to have similar markings and materials to the current buoy.
The resolution was approved by voice vote.
