Town says new certified operator hired, Green Canyon tank lining clears EPA deficiency once paperwork filed

Town Administrator Aitken updated the council on several water system matters, reporting that a water department employee had recently left without notice and that a replacement — described as highly qualified with prior system and laboratory experience, a Class A CDL and the required water operator certification — would begin the following day.
Aitken said the exterior of the Green Canyon storage tank has been lined, a milestone the town has sought for years; once the required paperwork is submitted to regulators the town will be removed from the Environmental Protection Agency's significant deficiency list. The exterior coating is also expected to reduce interior temperatures in summer and could be considered for the smaller Prater tank in the future.
On testing, the Administrator reported "no positive TC samples were recorded in June" and that a pH review of all sources returned readings from 7.6 to 7.8, below the 8.0 threshold that would have required a change in treatment protocol. A third-party assessment of the town's chlorination system concluded the existing configuration is adequate and that an anticipated pump replacement is not currently necessary, representing an approximate $10,000 savings from prior budgeting. The MPN test results were still pending; Councilman Merrill asked that completed mineral test results be provided to the Council when available.
Council members said the combination of a certified operator on staff, the tank coating milestone and the favorable preliminary water tests were important steps for system reliability and regulatory compliance. The town will circulate test results and regulatory paperwork to the Council as they are finalized.
