Trappe moves forward with engineering, bidding phase for wastewater ENR upgrade

The Trappe Town Council voted Sept. 4 to authorize engineering design and bidding for an Enhanced Nutrient Removal (ENR) upgrade to the town’s wastewater treatment plant and to solicit immediate quotes for replacing the plant’s bar/filter screen.
Town Attorney Lyndsey Ryan presented an amendment from engineering firm GMB to provide design and bid services for the ENR upgrade, which would include preparing bid documents, meeting contractors, answering questions and recommending how to proceed. After discussion the council directed staff to put the phase out to bid and to request a stricter schedule to keep the project on the current timeline.
Separately, Commissioner Jeremy Newnam moved and the council unanimously approved issuing an RFP to obtain quotes to replace and rebuild the bar/filter screen at the plant; council members noted the screen work is included in the ENR project but can be completed now without affecting grant funds.
President Schmidt also reported that the Planning Commission reviewed and approved minor health-department-requested revisions to the wastewater treatment plant plat and continued work on the town’s Zoning Ordinance update.
The council asked staff to prepare bid documents and enforce the tighter timeline; GMB was authorized to begin contractor outreach and proposal review. No vote tallies beyond unanimous approval were recorded in the minutes.
