Burlington trustees approve cemetery work, extra loan payment and routine bills

The Burlington Township Board on June 11 approved several items affecting township cemeteries and finances, including contracting fence removal at Barrington Cemetery, making an additional principal payment on an ADA renovation loan and approving routine bills.
Barton Boyer moved and Supervisor Jeff Eyre seconded a motion to have Lepper Lawncare remove the fence at Barrington Cemetery for $800; the motion carried. Justice Fence provided a separate quote of $7,355 to rebuild the Abscota Cemetery gate in the same design; Boyer said he will get a second quote and Eyre said he would check on a smaller sign design. The sign wording update was tabled until July.
The board also approved an additional $30,000 principal payment on the ADA building renovation loan for a total payment of $57,043, with the funds moved from the township's MCCU account. Separately, the board approved payment of bills totaling $62,593.32 and approved the May 14, 2026 meeting minutes.
The board voted to honor a Cemetery Right of Burial Contract executed Dec. 22, 2025 by George and Fay Johnson and Sandy Anderson, at the rate of $450 per burial plot; the minutes state the parties were not given the correct rate when the contract was drafted. B & E Security is scheduled to install exterior security cameras before the end of June. The Public Safety Revenue Sharing Grant item was tabled pending information from the State of Michigan.
Treasurer's and zoning administrator written reports were available for review; Fire Chief Norm Smith presented a department report. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. and adjourned at 7:10 p.m.
