Hanover students raise about $51,000 in Thon; district announces Innovation in Action and Nighthawk talks

Dr. Abels told the board the Thon fundraiser drew approximately 170 students, a cross-section of the high school, and raised $50,987.38. "It was a wonderful time for a great cause, all nighter and kids were the best they have ever been," Dr. Abels said. Dr. John Scola praised volunteer organizer Jen Gomulka, saying her leadership "generates phenomenal support" and that the annual Penn State visit is "an amazing and phenomenal event." The superintendent said he will bring the student group to a future meeting.
Administrators also previewed "Innovation in Action," an open-house-style program on March 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. that will feature roughly 20 staff and 50 students demonstrating district programs. Separately, the district will start "Nighthawk talks," short recorded presentations three to four times per year; presenters will include Shaina Castillo (Spanish program) and Doug Harris (VIP2 guidance work and F-1 racing students), with content intended for the district website and YouTube.
The announcements are informational; no formal board action was required. Parents were directed to contact the district switchboard for kindergarten registration on March 11 and were informed about same-day professional development for staff.
