Richmond County raises county employee pay 1.5 percentage points to match state action

The Richmond County Board of Supervisors voted to raise the county employee pay increase to align with the recently enacted state budget, adding an estimated 1.5 percentage points to the county's previously approved 2% increase.
County finance staff said the change reflects the state’s guidance and would raise the county’s FY27 personnel costs by about $46,004.57. “The total budget impact to the locality would be approximately $46,004.57, which is something we can absorb within our FY27 budget,” staff told the Board.
Supervisors approved the adjustment on a voice vote. Staff said the school division had already adjusted to the higher state allocation and planned to go with a 4% increase for school employees, which the school division expects to largely be reimbursed by state appropriations.
County officials said timing will require prompt adjustments to payroll and follow-up bookkeeping to reflect the amended salary scale, and staff will prepare updated numbers for next-month checks and for budget monitoring.
