The Sun Prairie Area School District board approved the district's student academic standards for the 2026'27 school year and directed administration to provide parent and caregiver notice consistent with state statute requirements.
On behalf of the superintendent, the assistant superintendent for teaching and learning (speaker 2) presented the recommended standards and asked the board to adopt them and to instruct administration to prepare the statutorily required parent notice. The assistant superintendent said the materials had been provided "in alignment with the annual requirement to present the student academic standards for the 26th, 27th school year" and asked that the board adopt them "as presented." (speaker 2)
Chair (speaker 1) moved to approve agenda item 5.01, "student academic outcomes/standards." The motion was seconded; when the board members were polled, members responded in the affirmative (Grayson, Horton, McFarland, Steven, South, Vilenkia, Davis). The chair declared the motion carried.
The district will incorporate the board's adopted list and description of standards into a notice for parents and caregivers, and the assistant superintendent indicated the administration will provide that notice in a manner consistent with the state statutes governing annual presentation and parent notice of academic standards.
No members of the public spoke during the meeting.
The board moved on to other consent items and then to a scheduled board retreat; no further debate on the standards item was recorded.
