The Board of Selectmen authorized a private road upgrade on Rabbit Hollow Road to support a planned subdivision for Richard Whitney, approving an upgrade to class 5 for up to 1,000 feet to satisfy frontage requirements.
The DPW director explained the owner intends to cover gravel costs and that the planning board will determine the precise required frontage (the director estimated the likely need to be about 450 feet). The town will finish grading with its grader and, once the segment is improved to class-5 standards, the town will assume maintenance of that section.
A motion to authorize the improvement (Map 255 Lot 24; an internal lot reference Lot 24255-024 was read during the meeting) was moved and seconded and passed by voice vote. The director said the owner was already on the planning-board agenda and, if planning approval is received, work could begin promptly.
The board asked that the planning‑board recommendation determine the final length, and members emphasized that authorizing up to 1,000 feet avoids requiring the owner to return for further approvals if the planning board asks for more frontage.
Next steps: proceed with planning-board review and, if approved, the owner will undertake the gravel work and the town will coordinate final grading and later maintenance.
