Hanover Public School District board unanimously approves personnel, policy and $744,754.92 in payments

HANOVER, Pa. — The Hanover Public School District Board of School Directors on Feb. 23 unanimously approved a slate of routine actions including personnel changes, tentative policy updates and payments totaling $744,754.92.
The board voted 7-0 to approve the minutes of the Feb. 9 meeting, accept the resignation of teaching assistant Jacob Edwards effective Feb. 27, and approve several employment items. Among the personnel actions, Stacee Coffin was moved from part-time learning support to a full-time autistic support/learning support position effective Feb. 23; substitute hires include Jessica Reed (school nurse) and Dr. Tom Krout (substitute principal). The board also approved spring coaches and appointed Dr. Krout as gameworker.
The board gave tentative approval to a package of policies and regulations covering attendance (Policy 204), weapons (218.2), suspension and expulsion and associated due-process procedures (219.1 and regs), discipline hearing waivers and forms (219.2 and regs), procurement rules including purchases subject to bid (610), purchases budgeted (611), federal procurement attachments (626), and Safe2Say procedures (805-R2). The motions passed 7-0.
On finance items the board approved check registers comprising $695,643.87 from the General Fund (including athletic and activity accounts), $32,878.68 from the Cafeteria fund and $16,232.37 from Capital Reserve, for a grand total of $744,754.92. The board also authorized transportation for Christina Adamson to transport a student to Paradise School at an estimated daily cost of $36.46 (IRS mileage rate plus $25.00). All motions passed on roll-call votes of 7-0.
Transportation staffing was updated as well: Felix Castillo was approved as a bus driver for the Lincoln area.
Board members received committee reports and district updates. In committee reporting, the Lincoln Benefit Insurance Trust indicated in a mid-year review that Hanover Public School District healthcare costs were about 6.7% below actuarial predictions for the current year. Dr. Susan Seiple summarized recent professional development work, including a Feb. 17 math coaching session with Dr. Paul Riccomini of Penn State University and curriculum updates for elementary grades. Dr. John Scola read a student representative report noting the upcoming Mini Thon fundraiser with a $50,000 goal and participation by roughly 170 high school and 30 middle school students.
The meeting opened with a presentation from the middle school cast of Disney’s Dare to Dream; Dr. Scola introduced and thanked director Duane Bull and assistant Erica McKee and praised theatre as "a magical realm" that brings students together.
Board Chair Mr. Frederick adjourned the meeting at 6:24 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for March 9, 2026.
