HANOVER, Pa. — At its Feb. 9 meeting the Hanover Public School District board heard several reports from the superintendent and assistant superintendent highlighting arts, STEM programming and student supports.
Superintendent Dr. John Scola said Disney’s Dare to Dream Jr. at the middle school was a success and that Dr. Hilyard and Duane Bull are arranging for students to sing at the Feb. 23 board meeting. He also announced an Innovation In Action open house on March 24 (6–8 p.m.) at Hanover High School to display STEAM programs — including Spanish, Code to the Future, robotics, drones, E-sports, mechatronics, precision welding and machining — with roughly 40–50 students demonstrating activities.
Dr. Scola also recapped the Athletic Hall of Fame event, saying more than 100 people attended, ten inductees (including one team) were recognized, and staff and volunteers helped with plaques and audio. "It was a sensational night and a PR bonanza for the District," the minutes report stated, noting appreciation for staff who prepared the ceremony.
Assistant to the Superintendent Dr. Susan Seiple noted School Counselors Week and described district counseling services and a district guidance website. She said the District Guidance Plan 2026 will be reviewed by the Educational Committee in March before coming to the full board for approval.
During public comment Isaac Riston, identified as a new Fifth Ward member of the Hanover Borough Council, spoke about his experience in education, personal encounters with homelessness and poverty, and his willingness to partner with the district. According to the minutes, Riston said he would "roll up sleeves to get into an issue and [is] committed to the community." The meeting adjourned at 6:12 p.m.
