Community Services Manager Erin Hamilton reported at the April 16 commission meeting that the recent Extravaganza Egg Hunt at Parnell Park drew an estimated 6,000–7,000 attendees and featured family activities, partner booths and a promotional "Golden Egg Hunt" that engaged local businesses. Hamilton said the event expanded age-grouped egg hunts because attendance exceeded expectations.
Hamilton also told commissioners that spring swim lessons started the previous Monday using Whittier High School's pool, and that summer camp registration opened this week with most sessions at Whittier Community Center and Palm Park already waitlisted; camps are scheduled to begin June 9 and are sized to accommodate about 60 children each. The department will open Summer WYN Club, a free drop-in program for ages 7–13, at Parnell, Palm, Anaconda and Michigan parks starting the coming Monday. Registration for other summer recreation classes is set to begin May 5.
Commissioners praised strong community engagement at the Extravaganza event and thanked staff for program delivery. Commissioner Tiffany Givens noted concerns about limited east-side day camp options if Parnell Park is closed for future work; staff clarified that Parnell will host WYN Club but not day camp.
