The borough council opened formal bids for several street paving projects and directed the streets committee to review alternates and recommend which sections to prioritize based on available funding.
Clerk read bid totals for multiple bidders and alternates. One bidder, Grannis Brothers Stone and Asphalt Company, submitted bids that included a base bid for Lehigh Alley at about $139,191 and alternates for Logan Lane, Susquehanna Alley, Cherry Street and two Riverview Lane sections. Another bidder, Big Rock Construction, submitted higher totals for comparable items. Council members said the streets committee would review square footage figures and alternates before choosing which sections to proceed with.
Council also discussed a separate engineering proposal from Gannett Fleming for work tied to a consent order (quoted at $55,000). Members agreed to delay final action on that engineering proposal until after a meeting with the Department of Environmental Protection.
The streets committee will reconvene to review bids, evaluate alternates and return a recommendation to council on which contracts to award and which alternates can be funded.
