Pocono Commissioners appoint Dan McCreery after deadlocked votes

After a night of public interviews and split votes, the Pocono Township Board of Commissioners on a 3–1 roll call adopted a resolution appointing Daniel (Dan) McCreery as the township’s interim commissioner to fill the unexpired term of Michael Velarde.

The board began the meeting with nine candidates and heard presentations and public questions on topics ranging from development and taxes to sewer and roads. Nominations produced several 2–2 outcomes during the first round of voting, leaving the panel deadlocked. Following a motion to reconsider and a formal resolution, the board approved McCreery’s appointment.

Chair (speaker 2) moved the resolution and the board completed the required roll call vote; the township solicitor instructed McCreery on administrative next steps, saying he must complete an affidavit of residency and be sworn in before taking his seat or voting. The solicitor also noted a statement-of-financial-interest form will be required before McCreery may participate in votes.

McCreery, who took part in the interview process, thanked the board after being selected. During the interview phase he told commissioners he sought to bring “fresh ideas” and said he was focused on infrastructure oversight, fiscal responsibility and balanced growth.

The appointment concludes the board’s immediate process to fill the vacancy. Commissioners said they welcome continued public engagement and noted there will be other opportunities for the candidates to serve on commissions and future elected or appointed positions.
