Council adopts Information Technology and Citywide Fiber Optic Master Plans

The Whittier City Council unanimously adopted both an Information Technology Master Plan and a Citywide Fiber Optic Master Plan on Oct. 14 to guide future technology and infrastructure investments.
City Clerk Rigoberto Garcia, Jr. and consultant Tom Jacobson of Client First Technology Consulting presented the Information Technology Master Plan. Presenters and staff discussed incorporation of artificial intelligence, staffing needs, budget considerations, SCADA improvements, drone usage and a proposed real‑time crime center. The City Clerk and Director of Public Works Kyle Cason then presented the Citywide Fiber Optic Master Plan and answered questions about the Gateway Cities Council of Governments’ timeline for regional fiber expansion, potential leasing of utilities, collaboration with Public Works and project phasing.
After questions and deliberation, Council Member Fernando Dutra moved (seconded by Mayor Pro Tem Octavio Martinez) to adopt both plans; the motion carried unanimously. Council Member Cathy Warner exited the chamber after this item.
