Whittier Council authorizes $675,624 landscape-and-irrigation contract with Azteca Landscape

The Whittier City Council voted unanimously June 24 to authorize the City Manager to execute a professional services agreement with Azteca Landscape, Inc. for maintenance of the city’s landscape and irrigation systems for a not-to-exceed amount of $675,624.
Interim Director of Parks, Recreation and Community Services David Montgomery-Scott presented the report and outlined the proposed expansion of the scope of services. City Manager Conal McNamara and City Attorney Keith Collins joined Montgomery-Scott in answering council questions about the quality of work, how ongoing services would be evaluated, the stated rationale for terminating the prior Southbay Landscape contract, bidding requirements, irrigation repairs, medians on Santa Fe Springs Road, the number of service areas covered, and maintenance of the Greenway Trail.
Council Member Mary Ann Pacheco moved the authorization; Council Member Fernando Dutra seconded. The council called the question and approved the contract unanimously. The authorization directs the City Manager to execute the agreement on behalf of the City under the terms presented to the council.
The council’s discussion did not include line-item details about how the $675,624 total would be apportioned among service areas or the exact contract term beyond the authorization. City staff said they would handle contract execution and administration through the City Manager’s office.
The council adjourned at 10:18 p.m.
