The Whittier City Council on April 22 nominated Council Member Octavio Martinez to serve as Mayor Pro Tem for a one-year term. City Clerk Rigoberto Garcia presented the item; Mayor Pro Tem Cathy Warner moved the nomination and Council Member Fernando Dutra seconded. The Council thanked outgoing Mayor Pro Tem Warner and welcomed Martinez to the role.
Separately, the Council, by consensus, selected candidates to interview or appoint for vacancies on the Design Review Board, Historic Resources Commission, Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission, and the Planning Commission. The lists of selected applicants were entered into the record.
The Council also reviewed outside-agency delegate assignments and by consensus approved existing appointments. Council created the Alpha Beta Site Ad Hoc Committee to guide staff on the Alpha Beta and Uptown North sites and appointed Council Member Mary Ann Pacheco and Council Member Fernando Dutra to the ad hoc committee. Staff and the City Attorney answered questions about committee sunsetting and conflict-of-interest considerations.
